Waynesville was occupied by the Union Army on June 9, 1862 withe the arrival of the 13th Missouri State Militia under the command of Colonel Albert Sigel. The town was strategically located on the Wire Road (see map) and Sigel was ordered to occupy Waynesville (see Telegram).
