McDonald Cabin

This was the first part of the log structure that was restored.the wall was covered with six layers of wallpaper. Under the wallpaper 8 inch wide walnut boards that paneled the 16 x 16 foot cabin. The initial wallcovering was whitewash, which was used to brighten the interior and the mix had some fire retardant properties.

The cabin is restored to the 1850s, when the W.W. McDonald built his hotel. This was probably the first 16.x 16 cabin built and used as the residence side. He built a second log cabin, the two connnected by a dogtrot. This is the typical double pen log building. The fireplaces have been restored. Room features a rope bed.
